Chea Sim, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), appealed to all political parties and social communities to be united as one in order to create a good environment for construction of Cambodia.

He made the remark Thursday at the 50th anniversary celebration of establishment of the Cambodian People's Party at the headquater of CPP.

The CPP will strengthen solidarity and cooperation with all other parties and social forces to maintain national peace, social security and stability, and join hands to restore and rehabilitate the country, he said.

He noted that the CPP will firmly adhere to the joint statement signed on May 24, 2001, between CPP and FUNCINPEC. The two parties will enhance cooperation so as to guarantee the commune election, scheduled to be held in February, 2002, to be carried out in an atmosphere of neutrality, democracy, non-foreign pressure with trasparency, equility.

The CPP president also appealed to all parties and social communities in the country to maintain constraint, mutual understanding, and respect law thus ensuring that the 2002 commune election will be held on time.

Chea Sim stated that the CPP has implemented the foreign policy of peace, goodwill and cooperation, aiming to contribute to establishment of peace, security and development in the region as well as around the world.

He demanded that CPP maintain its interior unity, persist in tradition of patriotism and love of people, and actively implement the political program formulated by the Royal government so the party can create further achievements for the country and people in the rehabilitation of national economy.

The CPP was established on June 28, 1951, then named Khmer People's Revolutionary Party, with the aim to fight against colonialism, and for national independence.
