Centenary Opera House Reopened in Beijing
June 27 saw the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening of a hundred-year-old opera house "Guangde Theatre" (meaning wide virtue) located in downtown Beijing.
Founded in 1796, Guangde Theatre is one of the oldest theaters survived in Beijing, that claims a long and splendid history as Paris Opera House, Teatro della Scala, and Bolshoi Opera in Moscow do.
Once a place where famous actors and actresses of older generations enjoyed the prime of their fame, the opera house has been rebuilt into a two-storied modern theater in traditional Chinese architecture, with over 200 cushioned chairs and 10 deluxe boxes installed.
The museum attached to the theater has created an eye-catching wall bearing the palm prints of a bunch of famous actors as Ma Sanli, Luo Yusheng, Liu Lanfang, Ma Ji, Jiang Kun and Li Jindou.
Three performances would be staged to celebrate the reopening on June 26, 27, and 28.
