Guatemala Shootout Leaves Nine Dead

A shootout Wednesday on a highway in northern Guatemala left nine dead and six injured, police said.

The shooting took place near San Benito, 300 miles north of Guatemala City, between two cars.

Two of the dead were found in one car, and had passports from Belize, emergency official Sergio Aucar said.

The other seven victims were Guatemalans. Four of the bodies were found in the other car, and two more dead were found on the ground. Another victim died at the hospital.

Officials had no motive for the crime, but Radio Sonora reported that it began as an argument between the two drivers.
