DPRK, Turkey Establish Diplomatic Relations

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Turkey have decided to establish diplomatic relations, the news agency KCNA quoted a press statement as saying Wednesday.

"The Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Republic of Turkey have decided to establish diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level," the statement said. The decision is " prompted by the desire to develop friendly and cooperative relations on the principle of mutual respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, equality and mutual benefit and non-interference in other's internal affairs," it said.

"It was agreed to mark January 15, 2001 as the day of the opening of these ties," said the statement.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries will contribute to deepening the mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples and developing the bilateral relations in various fields, the news agency said.
