China Demands Japan Immediately Lift Restriction on Chinese ProductsChina has demanded that Japan immediately lift its unjust restriction on imports of three Chinese farm products.China made the demand in response to Japan's request to hold negotiations with China on the tariff retaliation China decided to impose on three import products from Japan, according to sources with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation ( MOFTEC). On June 22, the Japanese government made the request to MOFTEC via its embassy in China, with the intention of sending a delegation to China to discuss the issue of China's tariff retaliation, and inviting a Chinese delegation to hold talks in Japan on the import of three Chinese farm products. On June 25, MOFTEC sent a reply to the Japanese embassy in China, agreeing to handle the problems arising in bilateral trade through negotiations and urging Japan to immediately lift its import restriction on the three farm products. The Japanese government has not yet responded to MOFTEC's reply, according to MOFTEC. As a countermeasure against Japan for its unjust and discriminatory import restriction on the three Chinese farm products, China announced that as of June 22, it imposed a 100% special tariff on imports of automobiles, mobile and vehicle-use phones, and air conditioners from Japan.
