Dachuan-Wanzhou Railway Opens to Traffic
The Dachuan-Wanzhou Railway has been opened to traffic at 9:00 on June 26. The railway linking Dachuan, Sichuan Province, and Wanzhou, Chongqing Municipality, is 158 kilometers long, with a population of some 15.28 million along the line.

Most importantly, it is the first railway built in the Three Gorges reservoir area on the Yangtze. The construction was started on October 31, 1997, with a total investment of RMB 2.55bn yuan made.

A state first-class single-track railway that has posed enormous ground construction work to Chinese builders, the Dachuan-Wanzhou Railway has altogether 1,854 cubic meters of earth and stone work involved, 93 bridges built, 56 tunnels cut, and 734 culverts constructed.
