A truck plowed into a passenger bus northeast of Damascus Tuesday, killing 27 people and injuring 15 others, the official Syrian Arab News Agency said.

The truck was trying to overtake a vehicle when it collided with the bus coming from the opposite direction, the agency reported.

The accident occurred in the afternoon on the main road between the capital of Damascus and Palmyra, 110 miles northeast of the capital.

SANA said four of the 15 injured were in serious condition.
