Macao Reports Huge Passenger Flow in Dragon Boat FestivalA total of 440,000 people were in and out of Macao in June 23-25, the traditional Dragon Boat festival period this year, according to the latest customs sources. The figure equals the total population of Macao. Local residents traveled to the inland areas to visit their relatives, go shopping or sightseeing. On the other hand, the number of visitors to Macao also increased by big margins, making local hotels fully occupied. Gongbei Customs, the only land gate linking the special administrative region with China's inland areas, handled more than 330,000 passengers alone in the three days. The customs opened a few special passages to handle the passenger flow. Police were there helping them fill in the entry and exit cards and reminding them of taking care of their luggage. Macao held an international dragon-boat race Monday to commemorate the Chinese patriotic poet Qu Yuan who lived in the Kingdom Chu more than 2000 years ago.
