Chinese Mainland Concerned about Belizean Ship that Sank, Prepared to Join Search Work

The Red Cross Society of China and the Chinese Ocean Rescue Center have been in constant contact with the rescue association and red cross organizations in Taiwan after a Belizean ship with 23 Chinese mainland sailors on board sank near the south coast of Taiwan June 23.

Taiwan has sent ships to try and rescue the crew. So far, four survivors and seven victims have been found, sources said.

The Red Cross Society of China and the Chinese Ocean Rescue Center express that they greatly appreciate Taiwan ships' timely rescue and are prepared to send ships to join the search.

The search work was still going on at the press time.

Shipwreck in South Taiwan Killed 7 Inland Crew

Monday's report says that there have been seven crew proved dead in the recent "Guangyuanlun" shipwreck in South Taiwan. Twelve members were missing and four were saved. The salvage work is still going on. "Guangyuanlun" encountered typhoon after leaving Hong Kong last Friday and was forced to anchor off Anping Harbor in south Taiwan. At 3 o'clock of Saturday afternoon, it lost contact with the land office. Later, source shows that the ship had sunk under the violent lash of stormy waves. Crew put on life-vests and jumped into the sea one after another.
