Russian Troupe to Perform in CPC's Birthday CelebrationsFrom Shanghai to Guangzhou, from Chengdu to Nanchang, the Russian "Red Army" song and dance troupe is currently on a performance tour in China in over 10 cities in celebration of CPC's 80th birthday, which is scheduled to entertain Beijing audience at the theater of Beijing Exhibition Center, June 29-30.The "Red Army" troupe had been on a China tour every year since 1998 through 2000. The troupe has long been known for its many large performances including many familiar songs as Three Carriages and Katusha popularly presented during the 50s and 60s, now as a gift from Russia to mark the CPC's 80th birthday. Founded in 1973, "Red Army" is a state-level military artistic troupe enjoying world fame. It claims a strong staff of over 150 people, including male chorus, dance ensemble, band and soloists. The troupe participated in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 and staging performance in 1999 to celebrate 50-year-old Sino-Russia ties on top of the victory day activities of WWII every year.
