New Quake Causes Panic in Southern Peru

A new earthquake hit southern Peru on Monday following last Saturday's killer quake, caused panic among local residents.

However, no reports on casualties or damage have been issued.

Peru's Geophysical Institute (IGP) reported that the earthquake, which took place at 17:16 local time (2216 GMT), caused panic among the inhabitants of the Peruvian state of Arequipa.

Last Saturday's earthquake, measuring 6.9 degrees on the Richter scale, left 69 dead, 66 missing, over 1,000 injured, and 21,000 homeless in the states of Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna.
