Northwest Shaanxi Province Holds Trade Fair in HK

China's northwest Shaanxi Province will host the Investment and Trade Fair on June 27-19 in Hong Kong, as a step to further strengthen cooperation with outside world amid the implementation of the western region development strategy and China's upcoming accession to the WTO.

A government delegation, headed by Shaanxi Governor Cheng Andong, has arrived in Hong Kong. The 600-member delegation consists of officials from relevant provincial and city government departments, in addition to representatives from some 230 enterprises.

Zhao Dequan, deputy governor of Shaanxi, said at a press briefing Tuesday that major activities included in the fair are investment promotion, trade talks, cultural exchange and seminars on various topics.

A total of 138 projects will be brought to the fair for foreign investment, covering the fields of transportation, energy, agriculture, water conservancy, service industry, high technology and tourism, Zhao said.

He said the export volume of Shaanxi to Hong Kong in 2000 reached 160 million U.S. dollars, accounting for 12 percent of the province's total, and he hoped the fair will help strengthen the cooperation and exchange between both sides.
