7,000 HK People in Drug-Free Dance Party
About 7,000 people, including over 1,000 youngsters, took part Monday in a concert-cum-dance party aimed to create a new culture for young people to enjoy music and dancing without taking drugs.
Jointly organized by the Narcotics Division of the Security Bureau and the Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), the "Cool Without Drugs Concert" advocated a healthy lifestyle.
The party featured dance performance led by a group of dancers, singing performances by popular singers and artists, and participation of about 1,000 young people in the dancing.
Mimi Lee, the Acting Commissioner for Narcotics, said, "In view of the rave culture among young people, and its relation to drug abuse, it is important that we reach out to those young people who frequent discos and dance parties. We would like to offer youngsters healthy alternatives while continuing to educate them on the harm of abusing drugs."
This dance party kicked-off RTHK's Solar Project 2001, which carries the anti-drug message as one of its main themes.
Following the kick-off event, the youth centers and drug-related organizations will be organizing follow up anti-drug activities for the anti-drug ambassadors and their own clients during July and August school summer vacation under the Solar Project.
