Peruvian Ex-spy Chief Montesinos Taken Back to Peru

Former Peruvian presidential advisor Vladimiro Montesinos, captured in Venezuela last Saturday, was brought home Monday under strict security measures to face judicial proceedings against him.

Venezuela's Interior Minister Luis Miquilena handed over Montesinos to his Peruvian counterpart Antoniko Ketin in Caracas on Sunday.

The former presidential advisor was flown over from the Venezuelan capital to Lima early Monday morning.

Montesinos, intelligence chief under former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, has been an outlaw for seven months and will face charges of manslaughter, torture, embezzlement and ties with drug-trafficking organizations.

Montesinos escaped from Peru before Fujimori went to Japan in exile. The former head of state escaped in face of a worsening political crisis in Peru after his controversial third re-election.
