Yunnan-Taiwan Economic, Cultural Exchanges Association Established

The Association for Promoting Economic and Cultural Exchanges between Taiwan and Yunnan Province, located in southwest China, announced its establishment recently.

The association is composed of celebrities from all social circles of Yunnan Province, Taiwan compatriots and relevant work units and institutions. They joined the group voluntarily.

The rich natural resources and colorful culture of minority ethnic groups in the province are cited as the major factors attracting Taiwan compatriots.

Statistics show that by the end of last year, Yunnan had approved 331 Taiwanese-funded projects, involving a contractual Taiwanese investment of over 400 million U.S. dollars.

Last year alone, nearly 1 million Taiwan compatriots came to Yunnan for sightseeing, investment and cultural exchanges. Some 50, 000 people of Yunnan origin now live in Taiwan.
