Bangladesh Faces World's Biggest Arsenic Calamity

Bangladesh is now facing the world's biggest man made calamity of mass arsenic poisoning, the Bangladesh Observer reported Monday.

The contamination is so widespread that more than 80 million people of Bangladesh are estimated to be arsenic risk and 50 million people drink contaminated water.

A big percentage of Bangladesh's existing 4.4 million (repeat 4. 4 million) tube wells are carrying the deadly poison.

The World Health Organization has estimated death of 0.2 to 0. 27 million people of the country from arsenic cancers.

Experts stressed on using of surface water, implementation of indigenous knowledge like " Pitcher Technology" or reserving rain water to mitigate the problem.
