Tan Dun to Compose Theme for Olympic Bid Film

Tan Dun, famous composer and Oscar winner revealed June 24 that he will compose theme song for the film on Beijing's 2008 Olympic Bid.

He made the mark at a news conference in Beijing, expressing his support to Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games. Famous director and director of the Olympic Bid film Zhang Yimou was also present at the news conference.

Tan Dun, born in Changsha, capital city of south China's Hunan Province, is a famous Academy Award winner for his sound track to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," and of the Grawemeyer Award, for his opera Marco Polo. A graduate of Beijing's Central Academy of Music and Doctor of Music Composition of Columbia University, New York, his music has been played among famous arias by world leading orchestras and ensembles.

He also announced at the conference that he will participate in the Beijing International Music Festival this October and conduct himself the first performance of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" symphony in China. Furthermore, he will also cooperate with Zhang Yimou to compose music for Zhang's film "Hero". He finally expressed his wish for strengthening such cooperation no matter whether Beijing's Olympic Bid would turn out to be successful or not.
