BTV to Merge with BCTV

The meeting on merger of the Beijing Television Station (BTV) with the Beijing Cable Television Station (BCTV) was held on June 24.

As a major step in the progress of audio-visual system reform and the establishment of broadcasting, TV and film group, the merger is the only way to optimize the TV resources of Beijing in tackling the problem of channel repetition, waste of TV resources and disordered competition, etc.

After the merger, all the present channels including three wireless channels and four cable channels will be retained while the name, calling signal and logo of the BCTV will be given up as from July 1. The seven channels of BTV after the merger will be positioned on news-centered integrated programs, literature and art, science and education, film and TV, finance and economy, sports, and life respectively.
