NE China Province to Develop Green Car Industry

The provincial government of northeast China's Jilin Province plans to build a green car production base to manufacture environmentally friendly automobiles that run on gas, mixed power, or electricity, according to official sources.

The production base in Changchun, the provincial capital, will be built on the existing First Auto Work (FAW), one of the largest car makers in China. FAW, which was launched in 1953, now produces 450,000 vehicles of various kinds annually.

Changchun is the capital of Jilin Province, which has been designated by the central government as one of the " bioenvironmental provinces" in the country and is a major grain producer, as well.

The provincial government hopes that the development of a green car industry will help develop other high-tech industries in the province.
