Three Tenors Hold Concert in BeijingChinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing, along with an audience of 30, 000 Chinese and foreigners, appreciated the concert, which was regarded as a rare cultural feast for opera aficionados worldwide. The three top tenors, Luciano Pavarotti from Italy, and Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras from Spain, performed together in China for the first time on June 23, the International Olympic Day. Accompanied by a symphony orchestra and choir, the three tenors sang well-known arias of operas and popular songs ranging from Turandot to Hollywood hit Moon River. The concert was jointly sponsored by the Beijing Olympic Bid Committee (BOBICO), China Central Television and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. The concert was live broadcast on television to a possible viewing audience of 3.3 billion in over 110 countries and regions worldwide, organizers estimated.
