First Processing Zone for Export in West China Operational
An export processing zone in this capital of west China's Sichuan Province went into operation Friday after an acceptance test by eight ministries.
It is one of the first 15 state-level export processing zones and the only one in west China.
The zone has a planned area of 3 sq km and construction will be completed in 3 to 5 five year in three phases. The zone is expected to attract US$1 billion of investment and export US$1.5 billion by 2005, sources said.
Six world famous companies, such as Toyota from Japan, have settled in the zone, involving a total investment of US$180 million.
