2 Israeli Soldiers Die of Blast Wounds

Two Israeli soldiers who were wounded in a bomb blast Friday near the Jewish Dugit settlement in the northern Gaza Strip died of injuries, the Israeli army said.

The two soldiers were critically injured Friday afternoon when a booby-trapped jeep exploded as they were examining it on a routine patrol. A third soldier was lightly wounded in the blast.

The Voice of Israel radio earlier reported another bomb blast on the Karni-Netzarim road in southern Gaza Strip, but no one injured.

Soon after the blast, Israeli tanks shelled Beit Lahia area in northern Gaza Strip, injuring three Palestinians, one in critical condition.

The bomb attack occurred when the U.S. and European Union envoys are stepping up their efforts to cement a week-long Israeli- Palestinian cease-fire brokered by U.S. Central Intelligence Agency Director George Tenet.
