Forum on CPC, China's ReunificationA forum on the Communist Party of China (CPC) and China's reunification was held Friday by China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification (CCPPR).The activity was specially organized to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, which falls on July 1 this year. Participants at the forum believed that only under the leadership of the CPC, could the relations across the Taiwan Straits be expanded, state sovereignty and territorial integrity be safeguarded, and China's full reunification be materialized at an early date. Cheng Siyuan, vice-chairman of the Ninth Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and also president of the CCPPR, and Wan Guoquan and Luo Haocai, both vice chairmen of Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and also CCPPR presidents, were present at the forum. While delivering a speech to the forum, Cheng said the CPC has always represented the fundamental interest of the Chinese nation and basic interest of the broad masses of the Chinese people since its establishment. The three generations of the CPC leadership have put forward a series of theories regarding safeguarding state sovereignty, territorial integrity and the full reunification of China. "The CPC has been active in expanding relations across Taiwan Straits, promoting a peaceful reunification of China in accordance with situation changes across the Straits," said Cheng. "The CPC's purpose is to safeguard the fundamental interests of the people across the Taiwan Straits, respect the benefits and wishes of the Taiwan compatriots, laying a foundation for solving the Taiwan issue in a peaceful manner." As early as 1988, following the deadlock of the four decade- long separation of the people across the Taiwan Straits being broken, the CPC Central Committee showed great foresight by raising the banner of a peaceful reunification and encouraged more exchanges and visits across the Straits, and set up the CCPPR, said Wan Guoquan. Wan added that in the past 13 years, with the guidance of the CPC Central Committee's policies toward Taiwan, the CCPPR, in accordance with the arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, has played an active role in advancing the development of relations across the Taiwan Straits by publicizing the policy of "peaceful reunification" and "one country, two systems". |
