Taiwan Mulls Direct Investment in MainlandTaiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) will consider direct investment into mainland for the first time during upcoming policy meetings, "parliament" was told Thursday.MAC chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen said direct investment would allow local business to deal directly with the mainland as opposed to current rules which restricts mainland-bound investments. "The Mainland Affairs Council is considering permitting Taiwanese businesses to make direct investment in the mainland," Tsai, Taipei's top policy maker, said. Mainland is improving its systems to strengthen protection of overseas investors, Tsai told reporters. Taipei banned direct contacts with mainland in 1949 at the end of the civil war. Currently, mainland-bound investments must be made through third countries. |
