Air Show Jet Crashes in CanadaTwo jets from Canada's military aerobatic team collided Thursday while flying in formation, sending one crashing into Lake Erie, the Canadian military said.The pilot and an unidentified passenger were pulled alive from the water, said Capt. Barry Tolmie of the military rescue coordination center at Canadian Forces Base Trenton. The other jet landed safely. Tolmie said the pilot of the downed plane was believed to be walking, and the passenger was on a stretcher with undetermined injuries. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment, he said. Capt. Keith Hoey of the rescue center said the planes from the Snowbirds aerobatic team hit each other while flying in a formation of nine aircraft over Port Burwell, Ontario, 120 miles southwest of Toronto and 50 miles across Lake Erie from Erie, Pa. The other eight landed safely at the air base. There was no immediate report about damage to the other jet involved in the collision. |
