Indian President Greets Pakistan's New President Musharraf

Indian President K R Narayanan on Thursday night sent a message of good wishes to General Pervez Musharraf on his assumption of office as President of Pakistan, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported here.

This is the first message sent to Musharraf from the government of India.

"I extend my best wishes on your assumption of office of President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan," President Narayanan was quoted as saying in the letter.

"India has always desired to establish a relationship of peace, friendship and cooperation with Pakistan," said Narayanan.

"It is our hope that your visit to India next month as President of Pakistan will move India-Pakistan relations in positive and constructive directions," he added.
