Somali Police Arrest Two Culprits Responsible for Boat TragedyThe police in the semi-autonomous Puntland, the northeastern region of Somalia, Thursday announced that they have arrested the captain and a crewman of a boat which ended up the lives of more than 86 people last month.The boat with 150 Somalis sailed off to Yemen from a port close to Bossaso town on May 9. They tried to get to Saudi Arabia in search of better life after passing through Yemen. However, the 86 victims were forced to get down at the crewmen' s gun point and drowned when the engine of the boat went out, according to the survivors of the tragedy. The boat with the remaining 64 people was afloat the sea for nine days until it was spotted on May 17 about 15 kilometers west of the Las Qorey coastal village of Somaliland by a smaller fishing boat. According to Ali Jama Mohamud, chief of investigations department of the Bossaso police station, the police in the town are still tracing another three crewmen at large. "The intelligence gathering in pursuance of those culprits has been continuing ever since the disaster took place," said Mohamud, adding that the suspects will be brought to justice as soon as the other crewmen are caught.
