Chinese President Meets Thai Deputy PMIn a meeting with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, Jiang spoke highly of the efforts made by the King of Thailand and the royal family to promote Sino- Thai relations. Jiang said China and Thailand have conducted fruitful cooperation in the military field as Sino-Thai relations developed smoothly, adding a new chapter in bilateral ties. He said the traditional friendship between the two peoples has flourished, and the cooperation between the two states have expanded. This will be of significance for regional peace, stability and prosperity. He voiced his belief that Sino-Thai friendship would be more vigorous in the new millennium with the common efforts of the two sides. On the international and regional situation, Jiang said, all Asian nations have been fully aware of the importance of equal treatment, mutually beneficial cooperation, and friendly co- existence. As long as the nations in the region give full play to their advantages, Asia will make more contributions to promoting world peace and development, he added. Jiang expressed his gratitude for Chavalit's devotion to the Sino-Thai friendship cause, and conveyed his best wishes to Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. Chavalit said Thailand and China have enjoyed a long friendship and the leaders of the two countries have attached great importance to developing the existing friendly relations. Thailand is thankful for the long-term support of China, and is willing to make new efforts to strengthen the friendship between the two countries.
