Jiangsu Made Host of 10th National Sports Meet in 2005

Jiangsu Province has been made host of the 10th National Sports Meet in 2005, said Yuan Weimin, general director of the State General Sports Administration, June 19.

Last year, the central government abolished former limits imposed on host cities and gave equal opportunity to those capable of holding national games instead of merely being held by turns in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

June 19 saw the first national sports meet bid conducted in the Capital Gymnasium of Beijing. Representatives from Liaoning, Zhejiang, Hubei, Shannxi and Jiangsu were out as competitors for the 10th national sports meet. After three-hour representation and argument by the bidding parties, Jiangsu obtained over half of the votes among all 76 secret ballots.

Insiders told that Jiangsu's success was attributed to its strong economic strength, excellent sports achievements and social stability.
