Qatar Regrets Jordan's Move Against Qatari Plane

Qatar expressed regret again on Wednesday at Jordan's continuous impounding of a Qatari plane that had carried Ibrahim Ghosheh, an exiled leader of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, to Jordan last Thursday.

At a cabinet's weekly session, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al-Thani described the "Jordanian measure as a contradiction to relevant international regulations and treaties and called on Amman to release the plane and its crew immediately," reported the Qatari News Agency monitored here.

The Qatari government also regretted statements made by some Jordanian officials that "do not serve the common interests and bilateral ties," stressing this issue could be tackled in "a calm manner."

Meanwhile, Qatar welcomed mediation efforts that have exerted by some Arab states and asserted its keenness on preserving the distinguished Qatari-Jordanian ties.

Jordan still prevents the Qatari Airways plane from taking off without Ghosheh as Amman refused to let him enter the country.

Ghosheh has been confined to the transit hall at Amman's Alia international airport since his arrival last Thursday.

Ghosheh, 63, a Jordanian citizen of Palestinian origin, was deported from Jordan along with three other Hamas leaders in November 1999, after they refused to give up their illegal political activities in the kingdom. He has since been living in Qatar.
