Ethiopia Dismisses Eritrea's Allegation as Baseless

The Ethiopian Foreign Ministry has dismissed the allegation of Eritrea as baseless and fictitious that claimed the Ethiopian defense forces have attacked an Eritrean police station inside the Temporary Security Zone between the two countries, according to loca press reports on Wednesday.

It was made clear that the Red Sea Affairs Democratic Organization has claimed responsibility for carrying out the alleged attack, added the ministry.

According to a press release issued by Eritrea, the Ethiopian troops, by using light machine guns, attacked the police station last Sunday from a range of 300 to 400 meters. They killed a local militiaman before being driven back.

The release said the attack had been verified by the Eastern Sector Command and Military Liaison Office of the U.N. Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea.

The ministry also noted that while it was very clear that an opposition of the regime has launched the attack, making Ethiopia a scapegoat for its problems could not be a solution to the internal crisis of the government of Eritrea.

Ethiopia and Eritrea signed a comprehensive peace agreement in Algiers last December to end their two-year border war which had claimed thousands of lives of both countries.
