Shanghai Expects All-Round Cooperation With Danish Shipping GiantShanghai wishes to carry out all- round cooperation with Maersk in port construction and the shipping industry, said Huang Ju, secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC).During a meeting with Maersk Kinney Moller, president of A.P. Moller Maersk Group of Denmark, Huang said China's surging foreign trade has provided a good opportunity for overseas investors to invest in its shipping industry. Shanghai welcomes shipping companies from across the world to get involved in Shanghai's port construction, management, shipping and logistics sectors, Huang said. During a separate meeting with Shanghai Mayor Xu Kuangdi Tuesday night, Moller expressed Maersk's confidence in China's great market potential. He said Maersk is willing to help Shanghai develop into a leading international shipping center in Asia. Shanghai, China's largest port, is one of the world's six largest container ports. It handled 5.61 million standard containers last year. Moller and his delegation are in China to hold the group's board meeting in Beijing. During their stay in China, Maersk has signed two contracts with the Chinese side on the purchase of three oil tankers and three cranes from China.
