3 Days of Rain End S.Korea's 3 Months' Drought
The drought that afflicted South Korea for three months was officially broken by the three-day rainfall that ended Tuesday.
The S. Korean Meteorological Administration reported that all parts of Korea except Cheju Island received at least 20 millimeters of precipitation during the three days. Most southern areas received more than 150 millimeters of rainfall.
More rain fell from Sunday through Tuesday than between March 1 and May 31 in 62 percent of the areas measured by the Meteorological Administration.
The weather administration said that the rain was caused by the weakening of a high-pressure system near the Korean Peninsula that had been blocking rain clouds. It said that there would be squalls in some areas Wednesday and nationwide rainfall on Saturday.
