Top Lawmaker Visits Photo Exhibition on Power IndustryLi Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), paid a visit to a national photo exhibition on the achievements made by China's power industry Tuesday.Over 600 photos are on display at the show, which is sponsored by four institutions. Since Li worked in the power industry for many years, the NPC leader looked at the photos carefully and asked occasional questions on the development of the power industry with officials accompanying him during the visit. Power was frequently cut-off during the years when he was working in the industry, but since the reform and opening drive was launched, in the 1970s, the problems of power supply in China have been eased, Li said. He urged the industry to deepen reforms and work according to market law. Zou Jiahua, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and also a veteran leader from the industry, was with Li during the visit. He called for greater attention to environmental issues in building power projects.
