Ethiopian Tour by Somali Interim Govt. Delegation Described FruitfulThe Ethiopian Foreign Ministry has described as fruitful last week's talks between a Somali transitional government delegation and the host government, the Ethiopian News Agency reported Monday. The talks was held with the objective to identify the major problems impeding the establishment of a broad-based government in Somalia and means of removing the obstacles to national reconciliation, said Kongit Sinegiorgis, director general of Africa of the foreign ministry. Last week, a high-level Somali government delegation, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Osman Jamal of the interim government, paid a four-day visit to Addis Ababa and held talks with Ethiopian leaders on Somali peace and reconciliation. The visit facilitated ways to encourage the exchange of views among various groups in Somalia, most particularly between the Transitional National Government of Somalia and the Somalia Reconciliation and Rehabilitation Council (SRRC), said the official. The role of a third party is to assist the Somalis to remove the obstacles to full national reconciliation and the establishment of a broad-based government, according to Kongit. Earlier, Foreign Minister of the Somali transitional government Ismael Hurreh Bubah was reportedly saying during the visit that it is wrong to accuse Ethiopia of meddling in Somalia's internal affairs. The Somali interim government had long been accusing Ethiopia of backing the country's warlords and launching cross-border attacks into the south-west of the country, to undermine its unstable rule. |
