Vietnam Welcomes Establishment of SCO: Vietnamese Spokeswoman

Vietnam welcomes the establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), said a spokeswoman of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry.

Vietnamese Spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh made the remark here Monday when asked to comment on the establishment of SCO last Friday in Shanghai, China.

Thanh said Vietnam hopes that SCO will make active contributions to the peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.

In a commentary article on Sunday, Vietnam's army daily Quan Doi Nhan Dan said that the documents adopted by the first summit of SCO have created the new step forward to the regional cooperation trend, aiming at building a new political and economic order in the world which will ensure security and peace.

The commentary article quoted Chinese President Jiang Zemin as saying that the SCO's establishment not only meets basic interests of the six countries' people, but also has a far-reaching impact on ensuring regional security and pushing forward world multi- polarization.

Presidents of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan signed a declaration in Chinese Shanghai last Friday morning to set up the SCO.
