60th Anniversary of Founding of China Democratic League Marked

The 60th anniversary of the founding of the China Democratic League (CDL), one of the country' s non-Communist parties, was celebrated in Beijing Tuesday.

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), extended congratulations to CDL on behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in a speech delivered at a specially organized ceremony today.

In his speech, Li praised CDL's role in firmly supporting the CPC in all fields, uniting patriotic intellectuals and democratic personages since its founding 60 years ago.

He told CDL members to continue to carry forward CDL's fine tradition of being patriotic, democratic, united and progressive, receive the leadership by the CPC and tread on the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics. He told the members to execute the duties of the CDL as a participating party, safeguard the overall situation featuring the development and stability in China in an unswerving manner, and make new contributions in the new century.

The CPC will celebrate its 80th anniversary on July 1 this year. In the past 80 years, the CPC has achieved world-recognized achievements in all fields by motivating the Chinese people to struggle hard, Li went on.

But in the new century, China is faced with three major tasks of continuing to carry out the construction for modernization, accomplishing the reunification of China, and safeguarding the world peace and advancing common development in the world, said Li, urging CDL members to work out more advice in helping the CPC accomplish the three tasks.

"Making fewer mistakes by the ruling Party will benefit the Chinese people the most," he said, pledging that the CPC would sincerely listen to opinions from the broad masses of the people and accept supervision by them.

He expressed the hope that members of the non-Communist parties in China will be friends with the CPC and do a good job of matters in China by always speaking the truth, carrying out criticism, so as to avoid crooked roads in the country's construction and development.

Li also asked all non-Communist parties in the country, including the CDL, to step up ideological and organizational construction in accordance with their own features and requirements and play a bigger role in China's political life.
