Danish Shipping Giant Orders China-made Oil Tankers

The A.P. Moller Maersk Group of Denmark will buy three oil tankers from China, according to contracts recently signed between the group and China's shipyards.

The three 35,000-ton oil tankers will be built by the Dalian Shipyard and the Guangzhou-based Guangchuan International Shareholding Co., Ltd.

The Maersk group has bought 25 China-made ships, with a total value of over 750 million U.S. dollars, since 1996, topping all other foreign shipping companies.

Jess Soderberg, CEO of the group, said at the signing ceremony, that his group has associated with China for more than eight decades.

The A.P. Moller Maersk Group, which has, globally, the biggest container shipping company, is also engaged in materials distribution, IT service, aviation, retail sales, exploitation of petroleum, gas and manufacturing.
