Shanghai to Host International Piano Competition

The first China Shanghai International Youth Piano Competition will be in Shanghai from November 21 to December 1.

The purpose of the event, part of the Third Shanghai International Art Festival, is to raise the artistic level of young pianists in China and overseas.

According to the organizing committee, applications for the event started Monday. People aged from 16 to 22 of all nations can participate in the contest.

Six outstanding candidates will reach the final and win awards with a highest prize being US$15,000 .

Seven domestic and foreign musicians including Liu Shikun, Arie Vardi, Hiroko Nakamura, Pascal Escande will be the judges for the competition.

More and more Chinese residents have come to enjoy playing or listening to the piano. There are 100,000 piano students in Shanghai.

The competition will be held every two years in the future.
