Putin Briefs Chinese President on Russia-US Summit in Ljubljana

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation Monday with Chinese President Jiang Zemin on last Saturday's Russian-U.S. summit in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana.

Putin shared with Jiang Zemin his impressions from the Russian- U.S. Summit in Ljubljana and the visit to Yugoslavia, including Kosovo. Both leaders expressed the hope to hold a constructive dialogue with U.S. President George W. Bush, the Kremlin press service told reporters.

On the issues of strategic stability, the two presidents stated the coincidence of their positions and reiterated their readiness for further interaction in this area.

The two presidents also discussed Jiang's upcoming visit to Moscow in mid-July. Both sides attach "great significance" to this visit and consider it as central event in relations between the two countries, said the press service.

During the conversation, Putin and Jiang reaffirmed the two country's close positions on the situation in Kosovo and the Balkans. Both leaders stressed the need to ensure Yugoslavia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
