Former Mexican President Honored for Promoting Sino-Mexican Friendship

The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) conferred the title of "People's Envoy of Friendship" to former Mexican president Lius Echeverria Alvarez Monday.

CPAFFC President Chen Haosu spoke highly of the efforts of Echeverria in promoting the Sino-Mexican friendship, especially his contribution to the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries during his term as president.

Echeverria, who is here on a visit to China along with his family, expressed his support for Beijing's bid to host the 2008 Olympic games.

Echeverria also expressed the hope that his children will better understand China through the visit and contribute to the friendship between the two countries.

The title of "People's Envoy of Friendship" is the highest honor that the CPAFFC can confer in the field of nongovernmental diplomacy.
