Macao SAR Chief Executive Starts Visit to EU

Chief Executive of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), Edmund Ho Hau Wah, left Macao Sunday night to pay an official visit to the headquarters of the European Union in Brussels.

This will be his first visit to the EU in his capacity of chief executive and also this year's most important visit.

Just before his departure, Ho told the press that he will introduce the progress that Macao has achieved since it returned to the motherland and further promote the contacts and exchanges between Macao and the EU.

In the coming five days, Ho will meet with European Commission President Romano Prodi and other officials of the EU and pay a courtesy call on Crown Prince Philip of Belgium.

The EU countries offered free-visa treatment to the Macao SAR passport holders in March.

Francis Tam Pak Yuen, Secretary for Economy and Finance, will be the acting chief executive of the SAR during Ho's stay in Brussels.
