Taipei to Use 'Hanyu Pinyin' Phonetic System

Ma Ying-jeau, mayor of Taipei City, said on June 15 that Taipei has decided to adopt 'Hanyu Pinyin' instead of the Pinyin in general as its Chinese phonetic system.

At a tea-sipping party, Ma said, Taipei, having been arguing for more than one year over the matter, had to make a decision now by adopting the system. And the system must be the most commonly used one for Taipei is an international city. So 'Hanyu Pinyin' is chosen by the city for it has not only been adopted by the UN, but also approved by the International Standards Organization.
