Sri Lanka to Set up Economic Trade Center in South
An economic trade center is to be set up in south
Sri Lanka
at Embilipitiya to enable the farming community there to sell their products at good prices.
The Ministry of Plan Implementation said it has allocated a sum of 50 million rupees (about 550,000 U.S. dollars) for the center under its regional development program.
A feasibility report has already been prepared according to which there will be five selected sub-trade centers in addition to the main center.
Among the facilities that will be available are storage facilities, cold rooms and packaging facilities.The project is expected to be complete within three months.
At present, about 150 lorry loads of farm products are transported daily from Embilipitiya to capital Colombo and other parts of the country.
