Foreign Tourists Flocking to Zimbabwe to Witness Solar Eclipse
Foreign tourists have started flocking into Zimbabwe to witness June 21's spectacular solar eclipse, The Herald reported on Saturday.
There will be total eclipse in the northern parts of the country while the rest of Zimbabwe will experience partial eclipse.
About 100 tourists arrived in Zimbabwe from Germany on Friday and were ecstatic about the coming eclipse and sunny weather.
More tourists are expected to arrive later Saturday and Sunday, according to travel agents.
Some five start hotels, lodges and guesthouses in Harare and Bulawayo were reportedly full on Friday as hundreds of tourists would make stopovers before and after the eclipse.
It was reported that the tourism sector, in conjunction with the government, will ensure adequate fuel along the major highways leading to the eclipse zones while the Ministry of Health and Child welfare has been set up.
The eclipse path will start in the Atlantic Ocean before reaching the west cost of Africa, starting with Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe and finally reaching Mozambique.
The shadow path of the eclipse will reach Madagascar before disappearing into the Indian Ocean.
The last total eclipse took place on August 11, 1999 and was visible in parts of Europe and Asia.
