Mexican President Ends Visit to Panama

Mexican President Vicente Fox ended a two-day official visit to Panama on June 16.

During the visit, which was aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and regional integration, Fox met with his Panamanian counterpart, Mireya Moscoso, and senior officials and leading entrepreneurs.

At a meeting with Moscoso and her cabinet members on June 15, Fox emphasized his country's interest in promoting bilateral trade with Panama.

On Saturday, he met with Panamanian businessmen at the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture, saying that his government hoped to sign a free trade agreement with Panama by March 2002.

The Mexican president arrived in Panama on Friday together with Moscoso from El Salvador, where the presidents of Mexico and seven other Central American countries launched an ambitious regional socio-economic integration project known as the Puebla-Panama Plan.
