China to Strengthen Research on Prison Legal System

The improvement of the prison legal system will become the focus of China's research of prison law, said Jin Jian, president of China's Association for Prison.

At a meeting held in Beijing Thursday by the association, Jin said that China will push forward the in-depth research on prison management according to laws, further standardize the implementation of criminal law in jails and strengthen education for criminals in custody.

He pointed out that owing to isolation from the outside world, legal corruption is likely to emerge in prisons. However, with the increase of legal consciousness among the Chinese public, the implementation of criminal law in prison has drawn wider social attention.

In recent years, prison management has been more open to the public in regions like China's capital city of Beijing and eastern province of Zhejiang. Those efforts have achieved good results in checking legal corruption and promoting legal justice, Jin said.

He added that China has signed two important international conventions on human rights, which require China to have more research on international rules of implementation of criminal laws.
