Mozambican President to Visit Brazil, Paraguay

Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano will pay a two-day visit to Brazil on Monday, after which he will take part in the summit of South American Common Market ( Mercosul) in Paraguay.

The Mozambican foreign ministry said on Friday that the aim of the trip to Brazil, during which Chissano will hold talks with his Brazilian counterpart Fernando Henriques Cardoso, is to stimulate bilateral relations.

Chissano was invited to the Mercosul summit, scheduled for June 21-22, by Paraguayan President Luis Macchi, representing Mozambique, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP).

The president is expected to highlight the aims of the CPLP and review cooperation between the SADC and Mercosul.
