Guinea-Bissau's President Calls for Close Regional CooperationPresident of Guinea-Bissau Kumba Yala Nhanca has appealed to his African counterparts to strengthen the regional cooperation for the sake of the defense of common interests, the News Agency of Nigeria reported Friday.Nhanca, who arrived in Nigeria Wednesday for a three-day visit, said in Calabar, the capital of Nigeria's eastern Cross River State, Thursday that African leaders should be more united in an effort to sustain democracy and shun communal conflicts and envy. He described Africa as the richest continent in the world, saying that countries like Nigeria, Angola and South Africa possessed the necessary resources required for each of them to lead the continent. Nhanca also requested assistance from Nigeria to rescue his country from an imminent food crisis. "We will die of famine" if without Nigeria's assistance, he said. |
