Top Chinese Legislator Meets Gabonese Attorney GeneralLi Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met Friday with Pierette Djouassa, attorney general of the judiciary of Gabon.Li spoke highly of the Sino-Gabonese friendship forged by Gabonese President El Hadj Omar Bongo and Chinese leaders, and praised the sound cooperation between the procurators of the two countries. He recalled his visit to Gabon in 1997, and expressed gratitude for the Gabonese government's warm reception. Li noted that China and Gabon have supported each other and maintained close contact in international affairs. He expressed appreciation for Gabon's correct stance on such issues as human rights, and thanked Gabon for its adherence to the One-China principle and having no official contact with Taiwan. Li said that the Chinese government has attached importance to its relations with all African countries including Gabon, and hopes that the African continent will maintain political stability, economic growth, and play an important role in the process of multi-polarity. Djouassa said that with the frequent exchanges of visits, Gabon and China have expanded areas of cooperation in recent years, and her on-going visit are aimed at pushing forward the bilateral cooperation between the procurators of the two countries. She noted that the working talks between her delegation and China's Supreme People's Procuratorate Thursday achieved success, and the two sides reached agreement on strengthening bilateral cooperation. Djouassa expressed appreciation for China's achievement in reform and economic development, and thanks for Chinese aid to Gabon. She reaffirmed that the Gabonese government is firmly committed to the One-China policy. Djouassa also conveyed President Bongo's invitation to Chinese President Jiang Zemin to visit Gabon. |
